Jolie Attends Premiere Weeks After Mastectomy Announcement
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Academy Award-winning actress Angelina Jolie Sunday appeared at a red carpet event just weeks after announcing she had a preventive double mastectomy back in February.
The 37-year-old mother of six joined fiancé Brad Pitt at the premiere of “World War Z” in London, England.
Jolie revealed in May that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after doctors estimated that she had an 87 percent chance of developing breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer because she carries the BRCA1 gene.
Jolie made the stunning admission in a New York Times op-ed piece titled “My Medical Choice.” She said the surgeries lowered her chances of developing breast cancer in the future to less than 5 percent.
Jolie’s mother battled breast cancer for nearly ten years before she died at the age of 56. Debbie Martin, Jolie’s aunt and younger sister of her late mother, died of the disease in May. She was 61.
The actress also known for her humanitarian efforts said in that article that she completed three months of medical procedures on April 27.
