Funeral Service Held For Slain Army Veteran Maribel Ramos

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A private memorial Sunday was held for an Army veteran murdered last month.

The funeral began at 1:30 p.m. at Calvary Church in Santa Ana.

Ramos, a former U.S. Army Sergeant, went missing from her Orange apartment on May 2. A massive community effort followed with several vigils, searches, and hikes held in her honor.

Her body was discovered on May 16 at Santiago Canyon Road on the hillside of Modjeska Canyon.

Ramos’ roommate, 54-year-old Kwang Choi Joy, was arrested in connection with her death and has since been charged with murder.

Her family celebrated her life and her achievements last weekend on what would have been her college graduation. Ramos was honored posthumously at California State University, Fullerton with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
