UC Riverside School Of Medicine Will Open Its Doors In The Fall

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Fifty students will begin classes at UC Riverside School of Medicine when it opens its doors for the first time this August.

"It is a brand new medical school, but UC Riverside has had a bio-med program for the last 10 years where students have gotten the first two years of medical school at UCR and finished at UCLA," Assemblyman Jose Medina, who sponsored a bill in support of the school, told KNX1070.

"Especially in my area, the Inland Empire, there is a huge shortage of doctors," Medina said. "Studies have shown that if you study medicine in one place, you're more likely to stay there afterwards."

UCR School of Medicine is the first new public medical school to open in California in four decades.
