COACHELLA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday said a Mexican citizen remained behind bars in connection with the 2011 murder of a 19-year-old Indio woman whose body was found in a corn field in Coachella.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that 27-year-old Raymundo Garcia Vasquez was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murdering 19-year-old Karina Sepulveda.

Sepulveda’s body was found on May 4, 2011 in the area of Fillmore Street and 50th Avenue, authorities said.

Investigators say Vasquez was arrested about 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Calexico Port of Entry after an extensive investigation.

He is believed to be the sole suspect in connection with this case, the statement said.

No further information was provided.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact James Campos of the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777 or Matt Diaz of the Coachella Police Department at (760) 863-8990.
