Arrest Made In 2011 Murder Of Woman Found In Coachella Corn Field

COACHELLA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday said a Mexican citizen remained behind bars in connection with the 2011 murder of a 19-year-old Indio woman whose body was found in a corn field in Coachella.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a statement that 27-year-old Raymundo Garcia Vasquez was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murdering 19-year-old Karina Sepulveda.

Sepulveda's body was found on May 4, 2011 in the area of Fillmore Street and 50th Avenue, authorities said.

Investigators say Vasquez was arrested about 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Calexico Port of Entry after an extensive investigation.

He is believed to be the sole suspect in connection with this case, the statement said.
