Former Wrestling Coach Pleads No Contest To Sex Charges

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — A former Rosemead High School assistant wrestling coach who was extradited from Mexico last November pleaded no contest Monday to sex charges involving two boys.

Herbert Daniel Ortizmonroy is facing over three years in prison after pleading no contest to charges of oral copulation of a person under 16, and committing a lewd act on a child, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The 30-year-old was extradited after a routine check performed by Mexican immigration authorities found that he was wanted by sheriff's detectives. Ortizmonroy had gone to the U.S. consulate in Mexico to apply for a travel visa to Guatemala.

The District Attorney's Office said in an earlier statement that the allegations surfaced after one of the victims made a video that incorporated material from Ortizmonroy's Facebook page. The montage was then posted to YouTube, where it was viewed by the other victim.

Ortizmonroy also ran a children's wrestling program in Rosemead.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 2.
