Engaged Man Shot And Killed In Apparent Carjacking In Yucca Valley

BEAUMONT (CBSLA.com) — A man was shot and killed in an apparent carjacking Thursday morning, days before he was set to be married.

Obette Lacap, a 33-year old pharmaceutical representative, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Town Center Mall at the corner of Warren Vista Drive and 29 Palms Highway.

Police are calling the incident a carjacking gone wrong.

Lacap's fiancee, Ivy Wong, suggested that Lacap would not have fought or refused to give up his vehicle if his life was in danger.

"I think he was just completely confused, and it was just so fast," Wong said. "Just a horrific, horrific thing for him to go through."

Wong had spoken to her fiancee just a half-hour before his death. She said that he was going to a doctor's office in Yucca Valley, and was not sure why he may have been targeted.

"He wears a dress shirt and a tie," Wong said. "Maybe he looked like he had money, or I don't know. I can't even speculate the reason why something so senseless can even happen like this."
