Would-Be Copper Thieves Get Shocked, Cause Power Outage Near Disneyland

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Two men were in critical condition Friday night after they suffered electrical shocks allegedly trying to steal copper from a vacant hotel near Disneyland.

Officials said the incident also caused a power outage in the city's resort area.

Anaheim fire crews and the police department responded to a call of an explosion on Katella Avenue near Harbor Boulevard around 9 p.m.

When they arrived on the scene, they found two people who were extremely burned next to two electrical panels.

The men were immediately taken to the hospital.

Katella was closed between Clementine Street and Harbor.

The investigation is ongoing.
