Suspect Killed, A Second Injured In Gun Battle Following Car Chase

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A police pursuit ended Thursday in a gun battle that killed one suspect and injured a second, along with a California Highway Patrol Officer.

At 12 p.m., authorities driving along State Route 62 spotted a suspect vehicle wanted in connection with a murder in Yucca Valley.

When they attempted to pull the vehicle over, a chase ensued, according to CHP officials.

The two suspects, who were described as armed and dangerous, exited the freeway at Main Street and got on the westbound 10 Freeway before exiting at Waterman Avenue in San Bernardino at 12:18 p.m.

It is alleged the two suspects carjacked the owner of a White Honda and killed him after he refused to let the car go. The carjacking victim was unidentified pending notification of his next of kin.

The CHP officer suffered a graze wound, according to authorities.

Reporting for KCAL9, Adrianna Weingold said at 10:15 p.m., the body of one of the suspects was still here "just feet from the car."

Shannon Fischer saw the police race past her window at work. "There was a barrage of gunfire. Pop, pop, pop, pop."
