Fan With 'Toronto Stronger' Sign Draws Internet's Ire During Game 3

BOSTON (CBS) -- Sports often bring out the best in people, but every so often, individuals can use sports as a forum to bring out their ugly side.

That was very clearly on display Saturday night in Boston, when eyewitnesses say a Maple Leafs fan was attacked on his way out of the TD Garden, and it was on display again in Toronto prior to Game 3 between the Bruins and Maple Leafs.

Thousands of fans gathered in Maple Leaf Square to watch the first home playoff game since 2004, but one fan holding a homemade sign drew the most attention.

The sign said, "Toronto Stronger," a play on words with the "Boston Strong" motto that has been used in Boston as a rallying cry after the Boston Marathon bombings, which killed three people and injured 260 others.

Images of the fan spread rapidly across Twitter and Facebook, and by the second period, "Toronto Stronger" was the No. 1 trending topic in Boston. A Getty Images photographer captured the fan in a photo.

The message, obviously, doesn't represent the views of anyone beyond that one person, and the reaction from the majority of Twitter users seemed to be of disgust.
