3 Missing Hikers Found In San Bernardino Mountains

MT. SAN GORGONIO (CBSLA.com) — Three hikers, who were reported missing over the weekend, were found in good condition Tuesday morning, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

A patrol helicopter spotted Ryan Shankles, Miguel DeLatorre and David Yoder around 10:15 a.m. in the area of North Fork Meadows.

"We had hope that they were looking for us. And then this morning, the first thing we did was build a bigger fire," Shackles said. "We put it up on a peak, and we just continued all morning, burning, burning, burning."

Search and rescue members began their search Sunday after a friend, who was originally with them before he fell ill, reported them missing when they didn't return from their weekend hike in the San Bernardino Mountains, KNX1070's Tom Reopelle reports.

Missing Hikers Found Safe

The experienced hikers, who had provisions with them, had spent the night in the Heart Bar Campground Friday. On Saturday morning, they drove to the Fish Creek Trail with the intent of hiking up Mt. San Gorgonio.

A winter weather advisory had been issued for the mountains through Tuesday morning.
