Gorgonio Fire 30% Contained, Highway 243 Remains Closed

BANNING (CBSLA.com) — The a fire, nicknamed the Gorgonio Fire, is 30 percent contained Sunday after burning approximately 650 acres of grass and brush in Riverside County.

Residents contacted authorities just after 11:40 a.m. with reports of two small fires along Highway 243, a mountain route connecting Banning and Idyllwild.

More than 400 firefighters are fighting the blaze, which is at least 20 percent surrounded, with the help of two helicopters and seven air tankers.

No structures have been threatened.

Highway 243 remains closed between San Gorgonio Avenue and Wesley Street.
