Man Drowns In Willowbrook Park

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man reportedly drowned late Friday in a park late.

Deputies were called at around 9:30 p.m. to Earvin "Magic" Johnson Recreation Area on a report that a man was possibly drowning, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County sheriff's department. The park is located at 905 E. El Segundo Boulevard.

Witnesses told authorities that a man took off his clothes and waded into the water of North Lake.

Moments later, the man began yelling for help before sinking below the surface, officials said.

Deputies and a L.A. County Fire Department dive team searched the water for the victim and found the man unresponsive.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff's department reported.
