Boy, 17, Charged With Murder In Connection To Body Found Inside Burning SUV

RANCHO PALOS VERDES (CBSLA.com) —A 17-year-old Long Beach boy was arrested for allegedly killing a 42-year-old man and then setting a sports utility vehicle on fire with the victim inside.

The unidentified suspect turned himself in to authorities April 27 and was being held without bail at juvenile hall. Murder charges were filed against him Friday by the DA's office.

On April 23, sheriff's deputies and fire officials responded to a call about a vehicle on fire in the 30100 block of Miraleste Drive in Rancho Palos Verdes.

When the blaze was extinguished, a body was discovered with the feet bound together and a cord wrapped around the neck.

The victim was later identified as Christopher Waters of Long Beach.

Police believe the suspect killed Waters in Long Beach before he drove the victim to Rancho Palos Verdes and set the vehicle ablaze.

The motive of the killing is unknown.

The relationship, if any, between the victim and suspect is unclear.
