Reckless Driving Suspect Surrenders After 12-Hour Standoff In Carson
CARSON (CBSLA.com) — A man wanted for reckless driving was arrested early Tuesday morning following a 12-hour standoff at his girlfriend’s South Bay home.
Los Angeles police tried to pull the unidentified suspect over around 2:30 p.m. Monday in South Los Angeles and instead, he led them on a 10-minute pursuit.
The chase ended when the suspect crashed his car near the intersection of Grace Avenue and Desford Street in Carson.
He then took off on foot to his girlfriend’s home, located in the 21500 block of Grave Avenue, and barricaded himself inside with a gun.
Surrounding homes were evacuated as a result.
The suspect’s girlfriend and a child were able to come out of the house during the standoff and were not harmed.
The SWAT Team and crisis negotiators attempted to coax the suspect out of the house before shooting tear gas into the home around 11 p.m., officials said.
The man remained in the home until around 1:30 a.m., when he surrendered. He suffered minor injuries to his leg and was transported to a local hospital.
The suspect has prior robbery and drug-related arrests.
