Suspected DUI Driver Dies After Officer Uses Stun Gun On Him
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Police Department said it will look into the death of a DUI suspect who died after officers used a stun gun on him.
In a release Tuesday, authorities said they responded to a traffic accident April 4 on Vermont Avenue near the 101 Freeway.
The alleged drunken driver, 50-year-old Mark Courtier, reportedly attempted to run away, so one of the officers used a stun gun on him, and he was taken down and handcuffed.
Police requested paramedics for Courtier, whose face was cut when he was being taken into custody. He was then transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The use of force in the incident is under investigation.
