Encino Man Arrested In Boating Death Of 16-Year-Old Boy

CASTAIC (CBSLA.com) — A Encino man has been arrested for vessel manslaughter in the boating death of a 16-year-old boy last summer.

Nshan Sogomonyan. 29, was arrested Tuesday.

Sogomonyan was driving a boat on Pyramid Lake on July 1, 2012 when his vessel collided with a personal watercraft, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department's Special Problem's Team said.

The jetski, ridden by Serob Nagapetyan and the 16-year-old victim, exited a no wake zone, accelerated rapidly but lost power after about 10 seconds, authorities said.

"Mr. Nagapetyan turned to see how close the boat operated by Mr. Sogomonyan's was and was immediately struck by his boat," officials said.

The 16-year-old boy died as a result of the collision.

Nagapetyan was transported to a local hospital where he remained for forty days recovering from his injuries.

Sogomonyan is free on $25,000 bond.
