Deputy Struck By Vehicle, Suspect Fatally Shot In South LA
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A sheriff's deputy was struck by a vehicle and a suspect was fatally shot in South Los Angeles Friday, according to officials.
The deputy-involved shooting and collision happened about 2:30 p.m. in the 11400 block of South Vermont Street, according to Deputy Kim Manatt of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
The deputy is reportedly alert and conscious. The deputy was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he was treated and released.
The suspect was declared dead at the scene.
CBS2's Dave Lopez reported that the suspect was involved in a domestic violence situation with his wife or girlfriend involving a child custody dispute when deputies were called to the scene.
Witness Carmela Milo said the suspect "hit the police [officer] and the officer flipped under the car."
