Rialto Police Rally To Replace Couple's Stolen Baby Shower Gifts

RIALTO (CBSLA.com) — A San Bernardino County woman and her husband are celebrating the generosity of a local police department which rallied to replace stolen baby shower gifts.

Blanca Silva was nine months pregnant when $250 worth of baby shower presents were stolen from her car parked in her apartment complex, located in the 200 block of South Linden Avenue, on April 16, the San Bernardino Sun reported.

Silva, who is deaf, and her husband, Martin Van Duran, couldn't afford to replace the gifts and filed a report with the Rialto Police Department, the paper said.

Hearing about the loss, police technician Noretta Barker rallied her co-workers who quickly donated more than $1,000 worth of baby items, including a high chair, crib and gifts for the couple's five other children.

The police department delivered the gifts Wednesday to the couple, the Sun said.

Silva and Duran welcomed their son, Martino, Saturday.
