Transient Killed In San Fernando Officer-Involved Shooting

SAN FERNANDO (CBSLA.com) — A fatal officer-involved shooting was under investigation Thursday, officials said.

The shooting happened around 5:40 a.m. outside of a McDonald's restaurant in the 800 block of Truman Street in San Fernando, police said.

An unidentified person called police after being involved in a fight with the homeless man outside an area McDonald's. When San Fernando police arrived, the man reportedly came at them with a sharp stick, so they used a Taser on him.

"The suspect continues his assault on the officer with the stick and the officer resorts to  deadly force," Mike Rosson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was transported to Providence Holy Cross Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is assisting in the investigation.
