Vegas Psych Hospital Accused Of Dumping Patients In Calif.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — City attorneys across the Golden State are looking into claims that mental patients from a Las Vegas facility are being dumped in local cities with little or no help.

The Sacramento Bee reported that 1,500 patients from Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital were given one-way bus tickets out of town, and about a third of them were dropped off in California.

The investigation found one man was given medication for three days and was told to call 911 when he arrived to his destination.

"Patient dumping in itself is reprehensible and illegal," said Dennis Herrera, the city attorney of San Francisco. "There are treatment laws that health care providers are required to adhere to."

Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital said it's investigating the allegations.
