Student, 18, Arrested For Kidnapping, Attempted Rape Of 17-Year-Old Classmate

NORTH HILLS (CBSLA.com) — An 18-year-old man has been arrested for the kidnapping and attempted rape of his 17-year-old female classmate, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Jesus Gabriel Lares was arrested Wednesday at Valley High School, 15314 Rayen St., after the victim reported that the suspect assaulted her after lunch, officials said.

"Lares grabbed her by the arm and pulled her into the boys' bathroom, then closed the door behind her. He began kissing the girl and trying to disrobe her," Lt. Paul Vernon said.

The incident was interrupted when another student knocked on the door.

The victim later told a teacher about the attempted rape.

"The girl was not physically injured, but she was clearly upset by the surprise attack," Lt. Vernon added. "Moving a victim during a crime and holding her against her will is enough to constitute kidnapping. Injury or not, this is a very serious crime."

Lares was arrested for kidnap with the intent to rape. He is being held on $1 million bail.
