1 Dead, 6 Injured In Azusa 4-Vehicle Crash

AZUSA (CBSLA.com) — One person was killed and another critically injured in a four-vehicle crash in Azusa Sunday evening, according to authorities.

Five more people were taken to area hospitals, a county fire official said.

The four-vehicle crash was reported just after 8:05 p.m. at Citrus Avenue and Baseline Road, according to Phil Ulloa of the LA County Fire Department.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, Ulloa said. Another of the accident victims was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

A person who had to be extricated from the wreckage is in moderate condition, Ulloa said.

At least two people were airlifted to USC Medical Center.

The deceased was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Brittney Hopper, reporting for CBS2 from the scene, said "two children were also injured," their ages and the extent of their injuries was not known.

She said an early investigation seemed to suggest alcohol might have been a factor in the crash.

Brenda Smith, a witness, told Hopper she was returning from church with her children at the time of the crash. "I started crying. And I asked my kids -- we were coming from church -- so we just pulled over and we prayed."

The investigation into the crash is on going.
