1 Dies After Car Slams Into Pole, Bursts Into Flames In Chatsworth

CHATSWORTH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday said one person was killed when a car burst into flames after crashing into a pole in Chatsworth.

The single-vehicle crash in the 20800 block of Rinaldi Street occurred about 10 a.m. in front of Sierra Canyon School.

The LAPD says a car carrying four people between the ages of 18 and 22 slammed into a light pole and burst into flames after swerving to avoid a slower vehicle.

One passenger died at the scene. Paramedics rushed the driver to the hospital in critical condition.

Two others made it out of the vehicle with only minor injuries.

Police say speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.

The cause remains under investigation.

No further information was immediately available.
