Suspected Drug Dealer Injures 2 Men In Car Crash While Evading Police

TARZANA (CBSLA.com) — A suspected drug dealer is behind bars after injuring two men in a car crash while evading police in Tarzana Monday afternoon.

The collision happened at the corner of Avenida Hacienda and Tarzana Drive.

Authorities said they tried to pull over the driver of a black Dodge Charger who sold drugs to an undercover officer.

"It was an observation of a narcotics transaction. It was a planned buy/bust type of an operation," said Capt. John Egan of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police followed the suspect until he crashed his car into a silver Infiniti sedan with two men inside.

The accident sent the Infiniti onto a sidewalk, where it crushed a sign and hit a tree.

The suspect took off running, but was taken into custody after officers set up a perimeter.

The driver of the Infiniti was treated and released at the scene.

His passenger, however, is in critical condition with brain injuries.

Egan said, "Our thoughts go out to the individuals that were in the vehicle. We're hoping they'll be okay. We're going to conduct this investigation at the highest possible level."

If the second victim doesn't survive his injuries, the suspect could face manslaughter charges.
