Coldwater Canyon Avenue To Close For 5 Weeks Starting Saturday

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) —  The five-week closure of Coldwater Canyon Avenue begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

The popular thoroughfare will close in both directions from Ventura Boulevard to Mulholland Drive until April 26.

The shutdown will take place between 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

The route will be reduced to one lane in each direction during the overnight hours and on Sundays.

Residents will be granted limited access with a pass.

The closure is part of a major project to replace a 99-year-old water line that burst in 2009 and flooded parts of Studio City.

Officials recommended that motorists use the 405 and 101 freeways during the construction instead of clogging up Laurel Canyon.

Even with alternate routes, drivers fear the traffic backup.

"We live off of Laurel Canyon, so people who would normally take Coldwater would now be taking Laurel Canyon, making it difficult to get to school," said commuter Kelly Ufburg.
