SANTA ANA (AP) — Orange County prosecutors say a man has been convicted of beating his lover to death with a decorative rock with religious symbols on it, then stealing his car, TV and other valuables.
A district attorney’s statement says jurors found 23-year-old Jose Fuentes of Santa Ana guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. He could get life in prison when he’s sentenced Friday.
The statement says Fuentes had a sexual relationship with 47-year-old Pedro Cerecer for about a month and plotted for days before the June 2010 killing.
Prosecutors say Fuentes had drinks and sex with Cerecer then waited until he was asleep before slamming the rock into his head several times. Fuentes fled in Cerecer’s Toyota with the victim’s TV, credit cards, cell phone and other electronics.
