OC Job Fair Charges Unemployed Applicants Up To $20 To Attend

SANTA ANA(CBSLA.com) — Job seekers were forced to pay an entrance fee to an Orange County job fair Thursday, despite being unemployed.

The 10,000 Best Jobs Expo was held at Angels Stadium Thursday and offered job seekers access to career coaches, networking, and employment opportunities ranging  from entry level to executive management.

"I'm just hoping to get one of the 10,000," an applicant told KNX 1070's Jon Baird.

The National Employment Council and Best Jobs Magazine gave out 3,000 free tickets to the morning session of the fair.

Tickets for the afternoon event cost $15 online and $20 at the door.

Some people job seekers said the donation was worthwhile, but with unemployment pushing 10 percent in California, others said it stretches an already thin budget.

"I really don't have $15 to get in, but it was the only way that I could get in. Ten thousand jobs, that's a lot of opportunity," one woman said.

The expo was held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
