Long Beach Taking Votes For Metro Station Re-Naming

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A Metro Blue Line station is currently up for a name change, and the city of Long Beach is taking votes and suggestions from the public.

The Transit Mall Station, located at the corner of Pine and First in Long Beach, goes by a number of names.

Some refer to it as the First Street Station, others call it the Pine Avenue Station. A number of people want to keep it simple and call it the Downtown Long Beach Station.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is open to any ideas the public may have. Any names suggested need to refer to a nearby street, freeway, a well known destination or landmark, a community or district name, or a city name.

If you want to leave a mark on the city of Long Beach, you can vote for suggested names at NameTheStation .

Voting will be available until April 12 for residents to decide upon a new name for the Blue Line station.

The Blue Line first opened in 1990, starting in downtown Los Angeles and runs 22 miles South to Long Beach. It is the oldest and second busiest line in the system, with an estimated 26.26 million boardings per year.
