CRENSHAW (CBSLA.com) — As the race for the new mayor of Los Angeles heats up, both candidates received big endorsements from local groups on Tuesday.
Candidates Eric Garcetti and Wendy Greuel were both present at the event in the Crenshaw district to campaign before the run-off election on May 21.
The New Frontier Democratic Club of the Crenshaw District voted to endorse Garcetti, LA County Labor Federation, meanwhile, says it is endorsing Greuel.
Greuel and the LA Chamber of Commerce had reportedly had some disagreements over pension reform statements made to the Los Angeles TImes, even after the group decided to endorse her.
“We’ve been talking about pension reform, we’re on the same page, and looking at making sure that we have good pension reform in the city of Los Angeles,” Greuel said. “So Chamber [of Commerce] and I are on the same page.”
While both candidates have similar voting records when it comes to labor issues, the pension issue may prove to be a big difference in the debates.
