SAN PEDRO (CBSLA.com) — The Environmental Protection Agency is paying heavy attention to a 40-year-old tank farm that contains massive amounts of flammable gas in an urban neighborhood.
The EPA sent a letter to the owner of the tank farm, warning of potential enforcement if certain precautions are not met, including the development of an improved emergency response plan . Meanwhile, nearby residents want the tanks moved away from their neighborhood altogether.
The letter raises a total of six issues that require attention from the farm’s management. The manager of the farm says he is just as concerned about the health and safety of the nearby residents, and that five of the six issues have already been met.
