5-Year-Old Girl Seriously Injured After Being Struck By Rolling School Bus

MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A 5-year-old girl was seriously injured Monday afternoon after she was struck by a school bus that rolled backward in Moreno Valley.

The incident happened at Box Springs Elementary after school was done for the day.

California Highway Patrol officer Maurice Walker reported that the girl was on the sidewalk waiting to be picked up by her parents when she was hit by the driverless bus.

"It appears that the bus…did roll backwards and did strike a child as it was rolling backwards," said Walker.

A crisis team will be at the school Tuesday to speak with students and staff.
