'The Beauty Bean' Founder Shares At-Home Beauty Remedies

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Want more voluminous hair? Or how about a glowing complexion?

Alexis Wolfer, the founder and editor-in-chief of TheBeautyBean.com, appeared on KCAL9 News on Sunday to share some at-home beauty remedies.

Among her tips, Wolfer recommends mixing a can of beer and sour cream to create a clarifying toner. She says the toner should then be applied from the scalp to the ends and should be left in for about 10 minutes.

"Now for your face. You can mix avocado mashed up with raw honey and some beer. This is gonna help to tone and clarify your skin and moisturize. And honey is antibacterial so you don't have to worry about this clogging your pores at all," she said.

For dry or acne-prone skin, Wolfer also recommended mixing full-fat Greek yogurt, oats and beer to create a mask for a glowing complexion.

She explained that the beer kills bacteria while the yogurt chemically exfoliates the skin. And as for the oats, they manually exfoliate and sooth irritated skin.

And finally, mixing equal parts of lemon juice and beer will fade age spots in about four weeks.

Wolfer is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. She earned her Master's Degree from Columbia University. For more information on the online women's magazine, click here.
