EASTVALE (CBSLA.com) — San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man in Eastvale Saturday after they said he tried to run them over with a big rig.
Deputies reportedly received a fleeing suspect call at 5 a.m. and joined Chino Police officers in a pursuit.
Authorities said the chase often reached speeds of 90 mph through Chino Hills surface streets and three freeways.
During the chase, the suspect allegedly crashed into several vehicles — including a sheriff’s patrol car.
The pursuit ended in Riverside on Interstate 15 after the suspect’s car broke down.
Officials said a brief foot chase followed. The suspect then jumped into a big rig — already in motion — and tried running over deputies in an attempt to evade capture, according to authorities.
The suspect was shot — in the 4200 block of Hamner Avenue — and pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities did not reveal what the suspect was wanted for or how many shots were fired into him.
