Fontana Woman Found Dead; Husband, Nephew Detained

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — The body of Lorna Lopez, 40, was found Thursday afternoon after her husband was detained for questioning in her disappearance.

Lorna and Victor Lopez, both 40, were reported missing Tuesday morning by their four children, Fontana police said. Lorna's body was found in the 17300 block of Cucamonga Road in Chino at about 5:30 p.m.

According to family members, the couple had rocky relationship and had been estranged for several years.

"Lorna had just announced . . . that she would be seeking a divorce this past weekend," Sgt. Bob Harris said.

Victor Lopez, who was last seen driving a black Chevy Suburban at an ATM around 10 a.m. Tuesday in north Fontana, later showed up at his family's home Thursday without Lorna.

"A little after 6:30 this morning, Victor came here to his mother's home in Huntington Park, said that he had seen himself on the television, knew that we were actively seeking him and wanted them to assist him in turning himself in," Sgt. Harris said.

The Suburban was located at the home and towed away by investigators. Lopez was detained for questioning by police.

His nephew, 38-year-old Joseph Rodriguez, was arrested Thursday morning at his home in the 6300 block of Miles Avenue in Huntington Park following an overnight investigation.

"Based on one of those interviews with Victor's nephew, they subsequently took him into custody for suspicion of being an accessory to a crime in connection to her disappearance," Sgt. Harris said.

A search warrant was also served at the home where items were found that lead authorities "to be very concerned about Lorna's safety," Sgt. Harris added.
