Masked Robber Beats Bellflower Store Owner With Crowbar

BELLFLOWER (CBSLA.com) — Police are on the hunt for a masked robber who attacked a Bellflower store owner with a crowbar Wednesday.

The incident happened at Lena Market on Alondra Boulevard.

Deputies said the suspect, who was donning a black ski mask, came through the front door, jumped over the counter and started to beat up the victim, who friends identified as Lena.

The robber then ran off with the woman's purse.

A man who works at the Pizza Hut next door said he saw the victim crawling on the ground and called for help.

The woman was taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center where she's recovering from her injuries.

The victim's friends said Lena is well-known and well-liked in the community.

"I'm actually shocked. Shocked. Among other emotions at this point," said Michael Crosby.

Employees at nearby businesses said they are scared because the suspect is still on the loose.

"It's so scary because it happened so close to the place you work and nobody is safe," a woman told KCAL9's Brittney Hopper.
