Police Search For Man Who Tried To Molest Two Boys At Knifepoint

Ladera Ranch (CBSLA.com) — Two 12-year old boys were playing in a park next to a school on Sunday night when a man with a knife attacked and attempted to molest and kidnap them.

Investigators have been talking with residents near Founder's Park, where the attack happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night, trying to get more details of the incident.

Authorities say one of the boys was able to run as the suspect grabbed the other boy and threatened him with a knife as he ordered the boy to undress.

"The suspect grabbed the second boy [and] dragged him approximately 15 feet," Jim Amormino of the Sheriff's department said. "At knifepoint, [the suspect] ordered him to take off his pants, which he did. He then ordered him to take his underwear off."

The boy was reportedly able to save himself by throwing playground wood chips in the man's face, causing him to flee. The boys then ran and flagged down passing cars for help.

Amy Bryant, Principal of Ladera Ranch Elementary School, released a statement on the incident.

"Please know we are continuing to be vigilant and will take additional precautions to ensure student safety. Law enforcement is conducting an investigation into this incident, and will have an increased presence in the area."

According to the parents of the would-be victims, the boys did not get a good look at their attacker.

The investigation is ongoing.
