3 Children Rescued From Watts Home Following Triple Shooting

WATTS (CBSLA.com) — Two men and a woman are dead after a shooting and barricade situation at a home in Watts.

The shooting took place early Friday at a home on Grape Street near East 115th and Imperial Avenue.

Officials responding to a domestic disturbance call around 3 a.m. found a man dead in a vehicle in front of the home.

At that point, they were fired upon by another man. An officer returned fire as the man ran inside the home where he continued to shoot at officers through a window.

After about an hour the shooting stopped and an 8-year-old child ran outside the home.

"And they said their father has shot their mother and then shot himself," LAPD Deputy Chief Bob Greene said.

Officers then entered the home and rescued two more children — ages 3 and 1.

The woman was taken to a local hospital in grave condition where she was later pronounced dead.

Neighbors say there was no apparent issues with the family, who had been living in the neighborhood for years.

"I've never heard any fighting, any commotion or anything like that. That was a happy family, that I know of, " neighbor Anthony Caruthers said.

Authorities said the relationship between the man found dead in the truck and the family is still under investigation.

Imperial Highway was shut down in both directions until just before 6:30 a.m.
