Bakersfield Senior Home Will Not Be Charged After Nurse's Refusal To Give CPR To Dying Woman
BAKERSFIELD (AP) — Bakersfield police said no criminal charges will be filed against anyone connected to an independent living home where a nurse refused a 911 dispatcher's pleas to perform CPR on a dying 87-year-old resident.
The police said late Wednesday the investigation into Lorraine Bayless' Feb. 26 death was closed.
Earlier, the company that owns the facility said the nurse failed to follow proper procedures and has been suspended pending an internal investigation.
Nonetheless, the Bayless family said it had no intentions of suing the company or trying to profit from the incident. The family said it was Bayless' desire to forgo resuscitation efforts and that she died of natural causes.
The widely released recording of a 911 dispatcher pleading with the nurse for seven minutes to perform CPR prompted nationwide outrage.
