SANTA ANA (AP) — Police say they have found no connection between an Orange County man who killed three people and himself in a shooting rampage and a construction worker who was the third victim.
In court documents, investigators had said construction worker Jeremy Lewis received a phone call on the morning of Feb. 19 before driving to the parking lot in Tustin where he was shot and killed by 20-year-old Ali Syed. The documents said Syed may have lured Lewis to his death with the call.
But Tustin police said in a statement Wednesday that cell phone records showed no call was made between the two men, and no other relationship has been found.
They say the killing appears to be a random act of violence.
