PHELAN (CBSLA.com) — A San Bernardino County Girl Scout troop is left empty-handed after a thief literally stole the cookie jar in Phelan over the weekend.
The theft occurred Sunday around 6:50 p.m. outside of a Stater Bros. market located at 4059 Phelan Road, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.
The girls were packing up their cookies after a day of sales when a white juvenile, riding a skateboard, swiped a bag of money off a table that contained more than $550 in sales and fled, officials said.
One of the Girl Scouts chased after the suspect, but fell. She suffered minor scrapes.
The crime was caught on the grocery store’s surveillance system and has been obtained by deputies, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect was wearing a blue beanie and a blue and gray striped shirt at the time of the crime.
The theft is under investigation.
