PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters rescued a family on Sunday that was trapped in an apartment fire that left 60 residents displaced.
The fire happened at 775 Worcester Avenue shortly around 5 p.m. Firefighters arrived to discover the fire, which was producing heavy smoke, coming from the three-story apartment building.
A family found themselves trapped on their balcony on the third floor, which was directly above the engulfed unit where the fire originated. The thickness of the smoke did not allow the family to escape through the door.
Firefighters raised a ladder to the balcony and immediately rescued three girls before assisting their father to safety. The mother, who had fainted due to heavy smoke inhalation, was rescued and taken to a hospital.
A shelter was set up, for approximately 60 residents who were affected by the fire, in the Jackie Robinson Community Center.
