Caught On Video: Smash-And-Grab Robbery At Sherman Oaks Jewelry Store

Robbery Suspects Caught on Tape NR13059cn by Los Angeles Police Department on YouTube

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA.com) — The public's help was sought Tuesday to identify two suspects caught on video, robbing a jewelry store in Sherman Oaks.

Police say the burglary happened Feb. 2 at 3:50 p.m. Surveillance video shows two suspects armed with hammers, entering Riverton Jewelry store near  Coldwater Canyon and Riverside Drive.

The suspects smashed in display cases and removed several watches. The owner, Chuck Lire, tried to stop the suspects, was pushed away, police said.

"In three minutes they were gone. There was no time for thinking," Lire said. "You just do what you have to do to protect what belongs to you."

Tens of thousands of dollars worth of watches were stolen, including two Rolex pieces. Police say the suspects were seen on the store's surveillance video store the day before, acting like customers.

The suspects fled the store on foot and were seen leaving in a light-colored, compact car.

Both suspects were described as Hispanic men. The first suspect was between 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall, 25 to 30 years old, and about 170 pounds. The second suspect was described as being 20 to 25 years old, about 5-foot-8 and weighing about 150 pounds.

Anyone with information about the crime can call LAPD Detective O'Shea at (818) 374-0087 or Detective Flores at (818) 374-0079.
