WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — More than 10,000 Southern California Edison customers were without power Monday night after a very small fire at an Edison substation, officials said.
The power outage, which was first reported at 6:54 p.m., appears have affected at least three cities – Santa Fe Springs, La Habra and Whittier – leaving a total of 10,781 customers without electricity.
At one point, the outage affected Whittier Police Department’s ability to take 911 calls, according sheriff’s officials at the Norwalk station. Power has been returned to Whittier Police Department.
A small fire at an Edison substation at Painter and Mulberry in Whittier is believed to be responsible for the outage. The first-alarm fire was quickly put out.
