NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say an officer-involved shooting led to several blocks being closed in North Hollywood Sunday evening.
The OIS occurred near Archwood and Vineland Avenue just after 7:30, according to authorities.
CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Jeff Nguyen spoke to a woman who says the incident began after a man with a gun threatened a friend of hers driving in her neighborhood.
“She thought he was going to come over to the car and ask for some money or something. But when he got there he was like ‘I’m going to kill you.’ You know, with the gun at her window. And so she speed off. “Lambert says her friend then called police for help.Juan Ruiz and Erika Velasquez were coming back from the laundromat when they noticed a police car slowly driving by their apartment building.”And then the car just stopped. Right after that we heard a gunshot. Just one gunshot,” Ruiz said.
Police confirm officers did open fire on the man following a disturbance call in the area.
The suspect was hit. Officials did not know the man’s condition.
No officers were hurt.
Speaking for many parents, Lambert told Nguyen they are not happy to have gunfire erupt near their homes. “I have a daughter. I have a son. It’s not good.”
