CARSON (CBSLA.com) — A seal pup was rescued by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies earlier this month after it wandered into traffic on busy Avalon Boulevard.
Deputies received a call at 11:40 p.m. on Feb. 9 about a traffic hazard where the caller said he almost hit a seal with his vehicle in Carson.
The seal was found by officials roaming the business area near the corner of Avalon Boulevard and Dominguez Street.
“Deputies were able to corner the seal in front of a business and maintain control of his movements, avoiding injury to the seal or pedestrians/vehicles in the area,” Lt. Chris Bergner said in a statement.
Marine Animal Rescue also responded to the scene and took the less than 1-year-old seal to a rescue center for evaluation, officials said.
Rescue personnel said the animal “had probably gotten into the city of Carson through the Dominguez Channel.”
