2 Injured In South LA Street Racing Crash

ROSEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A street race that ended in a crash in South Los Angeles left two people with major injuries early Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to authorities, a black Honda Civic was racing with an unknown green-colored vehicle in the 400 block of Compton Boulevard around 12:30 a.m.

At the same time, a big rig was making a U-turn on the street.

"For unknown reasons, the black Honda struck the trailer portion of the tractor trailer combination, traversing underneath the trailer," the CHP said in a statement.

The car's roof was sheared off in the crash before the vehicle hit a light pole, officials said.

The 23-year-old male driver and the 21-year-old female passenger suffered major injuries and were transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Their condition is unknown.

No arrests were made.

The unidentified green car fled the scene before authorities arrived.

Anyone with information about the crash should contact the California Highway Patrol at (310) 561-3355.
