2 Injured In South LA Street Racing Crash

ROSEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A street race that ended in a crash in South Los Angeles left two people with major injuries early Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to authorities, a black Honda Civic was racing with an unknown green-colored vehicle in the 400 block of Compton Boulevard around 12:30 a.m.

At the same time, a big rig was making a U-turn on the street.

“For unknown reasons, the black Honda struck the trailer portion of the tractor trailer combination, traversing underneath the trailer,” the CHP said in a statement.

The car’s roof was sheared off in the crash before the vehicle hit a light pole, officials said.

The 23-year-old male driver and the 21-year-old female passenger suffered major injuries and were transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Their condition is unknown.

No arrests were made.

The unidentified green car fled the scene before authorities arrived.
