20-Year-Old Skateboarder Killed In Norwalk Hit-And-Run

NORWALK (CBSLA.com) — A family is searching for answers after a 20-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Norwalk early Saturday morning.

Daniel Ortiz was skateboarding to his mother's home around 3 to 4 a.m. when he was struck by the driver of a black Nissan Titan at the intersection of Studebaker and Foster roads.

"It kills me knowing he got killed right here on his way home," said the victim's brother, Joe Macias.

Macias said he doesn't understand how someone could just leave his younger brother on the road.

"It's ridiculous…knowing there's a hospital less than 500 feet away," he said. "It's just devastating knowing …that it was my brother laying here for almost four hours in the middle of the street."

Norwalk sheriff's investigators said a passerby finally noticed Ortiz's body and called for help.

Macias said his brother was a good kid and an all-star athlete.

"He played football…baseball. Whoever did this, turn yourself in. So my mom can get rest," he said.

Ortiz's family has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is encouraged to contact the Norwalk Sheriff's Station.
