EASTVALE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say an 8-year-old boy has accidentally shot a 39-year-old man in the head at home in the city of Eastvale.
The shooting occurred about 10:10 p.m. Saturday in the 7000 block of Elm Grove in Riverside County.
According to statement issued by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s office, deputies arriving on scene found the victim laying on the kitchen floor.
An investigation revealed that the child had allegedly fired one round from a loaded 45-caliber semi-automatic firearm from an upstairs bedroom. The gun was discovered in a dresser drawer of a bedroom.
The statement said the bullet, which penetrated the floor, “struck the victim, who was sitting downstairs at the kitchen table, on the top of the head.”
The victim was taken to an area hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
The owner of the gun was identified in the statement as Carlos Serafilo.
Deputies say Serafilo was arrested for allegedly negligently maintaining a firearm accessible to a minor. He has been booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.
No further information was provided.
