HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A suspicious device that prompted the evacuation of a portion of an outdoor mall in Huntington Beach has been deemed harmless.

The package — which turned out to just be trash — was reported just after 6 p.m. Friday at the Bella Terra mall on the 7700 block of Edinger Avenue.

According to authorities, the package was found near the Barnes & Noble Bookseller and Kohl’s prompting that section of the mall to be evacuated.

As of 7:25 p.m., the bomb squad had arrived on scene. By 8 p.m., authorities deemed the package to be harmless. The scene was being cleared.

No further information was available.
