LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An Alaska Airlines flight from Los Angeles International Airport was diverted to Portland International Airport Thursday night after the captain passed out mid-flight.
Flight 473 to Seattle, with 116 passengers and five crew members, was landed safely by the first officer.
The captain quickly regained consciousness after passing out, Alaska Airlines said.
The flight, which departed LAX at 6:37 p.m., was scheduled to land at 9:30 p.m. in Seattle.
The captain, who has been flying for Alaska Airlines for 28 years, was taken to the hospital for evaluation once the plane landed in Oregon.
The airline said he was current on his six-month medical evaluation.
